I have exactly the same problem. Even with simple calendar turned on so that a recurring appointment should be created as many small appointments. I did look at the debug half heartedly and it appeared to me as if the vcal file from evolution had it's recurring information removed before it was sent to the phone, but multiple copies of this weren't sent. If it's just the case of not the repeating that same entry with an incremented date then I'd imagine that the same problem would exist for the t68i. Since I hadn't seen any screaming and shouting from t68i users I assumed I was completely on the wrong track.
(More information I'm running debian (sid) evolution 1.4 and I get pre-compiled multisync debian packages from http://www.mikan.net/~mikan/debian/unstable. Version 0.80.1-4. I communicate with the telephone via bluetooth.
