I noticed that it didn't matter what password I used, I got the same error message. So I whipped out tcpdump and found out that there was no network activity at all unless "Use QCop" was enabled. I think this is a bug.
I'm not looking for an elegent solution here. If I have to reboot the Zaurus after syncing then that's OK.
