A sticky situation indeed. I've been working on this exact issue
in pilot-link over the last couple of days (and unconvering some ugly
PalmOS issues in the process).
On some Palm devices, in some databases, there are records which
will immediately crash the Palm when read via HotSync. For those, we have
to ignore them entirely. I'm beginning to think that we shouldn't even
allow the ability to back up OS databases (resource or record databases)
at all, and just allow the user(s) to back up what they can install on RAM
and VFS. It avoids a huge mess of other problems we don't want to have to
get involved in with having lookup tables for per-device, per-file
matches. Blech.

What exactly are your needs? What are you using J-Pilot for at
this point? What are you using Multisync for at this point?

What would you sync it to? Just to disk? You can write a "plugin"
to back up MemoDB.pdb in about 10 lines of code, literally, if you wish.
