I suspect you're going from phone to evolution and not in the other
direction. I have the problem in that evolution address book is my
master database, and i move data from it to the phone by deleting
everything in the phone before a sync. This avoids the problems with
the addressbook being contaminated by the whitespaces in address entries
etc. you talk about.

If you're game - I'm intersted that you delete all your phone's
addressbook entries then sync from evolution to see if the address info
is copied across.

Any other phones encounter bogus whitespace entering the Evolution
address book when shifting data from phone to Evolution address book?

I've offered to help debug this as I have a K700i (which should be
similar to many other Symbian phones).
