That will bring up a dialog, with the settings for the VM. There, u will have to enable Network Card, and select your n/w card from the drop down. Similarly for the serial port, u will have to enable COM1/2/3/4 port depending on which port u have the modem connected to. I have used SQL Server running on the actual machine, from the virtual machine. I created a DSN in the virtual machine referring to the host machine, and rest worked normally.
