Hi,

Apart from various avantages mentioned in the books and sites, foll. are some practica
advantages I found myself.
Foll. is the comparison. 1st point of ASP corresponds to 1st point of ASP.NEt & so on.

ASP
===

1. Single File Code
----------------------
- In ASP, html code was intermingled with the script, thereby making it more
unreadeable and unmaintainable.
- As the logic becomes more complex, the code becomes all the more cumbersome to
maintain.

2. Interpreted
------------------
- Therefore everytime a page is requested ASP excutes it line by line, thereby
affecting the execution time.

3. Throughput
------------------
- Since interpretation directly affects the execution time, pages with complex and
huge logic will consume substantial memory, thereby rendering itself inefficient of
handling more requests.

4. Less reusability
----------------------
- Apart from using functions and COM objects, there is no in built resuability in ASP.
For eg: If in a page certain records are to be displayed using html table at various
events, then it has to be re-written as many times and as many places.

ASP.NET
======

1. Event driven programming.
-----------------------------------
Event driven programming makes it easier to use and maintain pages. So very easy to
identify a particular code. Also it makes designing(presentation layer) separate from
programming(logic layer). The code is not intermingled with the HTML, thereby making
it more readable and maintainable.

2. Compilation
------------------
- Unlike ASP, the code is compiled, thereby making it reusable. Once a code is
compiled into the native code of the machine, it is cached for entertaining further
request, thereby reducing the execution & response time.

3. Throughput
-----------------
- Since the code is compiled and cached, the same compiled code is reused for further
requests. Thereby increasing throughput considerably.

4. Reusability
----------------
- A frequently used code in a page can be put in a function, which in turn can be
called on various events. This is unlike in asp cas, there is separation of
presentation and business layers. For eg: Certain records are to displayed in a html
table, then just datagrid controls can be placed on the required parts of the page,
and in code behind this single function can be attached to that particular datagrid.

.....and there are many more.......

cheers - Phani
