----------------------------------------------------------- From: Rohit_BD Message 2 in Discussion Versioning is required only where different applications refer to different versions of the same dll. We can have 2 dlls with the same name, but in different locations. These are private assemblies - private to the application by virtue of their physical locations, and they do not have a strong-name key. But when 2 applications share a known assembly - i.e., when both look for the assembly in the same place (GAC), then it becomes important that modifications to that dll or assembly for one application do not impact the other application. In this case versioning comes to the rescue whereby, if an assembly that is marked as shared (has a strong-name key) is modified, a new version is assigned to it when it is compiled. Copying this dll into GAC simply creates a new folder (the name is the version no.) under the name of the assembly and the dll is copied into that folder. This "folder" method may seem strange, as from windows explorer or assembly manager, it doesn't appear in the form of folders, but from command prompt it can be seen. ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/MumbaiUserGroup/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
