----------------------------------------------------------- From: AjaySingala[Synergetics] Message 3 in Discussion Hi Anjali, In a way, yes, encapsulation and abstraction are the same, but only as far as 'information hiding' is concerned. Nothing beyond that. Encapsulation by definition means hiding information. Abstraction on the other hand is a way of defining some 'default implementation' for something, which the derived classes may or may not use. If they don't want to reuse the default implementation, they overr-write it by creating a new implementation. but if they do want to re-use the default implementation, they don't have to do anything. They need not even know what the default implementation does. So, in a way, abstraction too is hiding the default implementation. HTH.
