Hi,
Client-side JavaScript variables can ONLY be accessed in the browser
(or HTML) side. All the scoping rules apply as usual. Once the page
has been posted (or URL changed or refreshed), these variables are
lost, and reinitialised (only for refresh). If you want to access any
variable via javascript, make sure that it is declared before
accessing it, and that it is called while the variable is still in
scope. For example, a variable declared inside an if {} block will not
be available outside that block.
The interaction between the scripts and the page is as below (<-->
indicates which type of script can access what):
JavaScript variables <--> Client-side code <--> HTML input fields <-
(via request object) -> Server-side code.
This is a short descritption of how ASP, of ASPX or any CGI works:
Browser requests page -> Web server invokes server-side engine ->
Server-side code executes -> Resulting HTML is sent to Web server
which in turn sends it to browser -> Browser gets HTML and renders it,
along with any client-side scripts -> Client-side scripts perform
client-side operations like validation or DHTML.
