If the process (.exe) still persists in the Task Manager, you can create a
instance of the process class and assign it to the excel process. Then call the
Close method of the process instance.
Process excelProcess = Process.GetProcessesByName("excel");
// This will ensure that any open windows of Excel are closed.
excelProcess.CloseMainWindow();
// This will terminate the excel process
excelProcess.Close();
PS: Please note that this method will close any excel instances opened in the
production environment, even those that are not opened during the COM interop
interaction.
