Q. Can we perform transactions using Web Services? If yes, how?
A: Yes. We can perform transactions in Web Services. This can be done by using
the WS-Coordination specifications, which provides a framework for defining
co-ordination types.
There can be many participants in a Web Service, thus forming large distribute
apps. The WS-Coordination specification defines 2 co-ordination types:
WS-AtomicTransaction (AT)
WS-BusinessActivity (BA)
AT is used to co-ordinate short duration activities executed withing limited
trust domains.
BA is used to co-ordinate long duration activities.
A Web Service app can include both AT and BA.
Cheers,
Ajay Singala [Synergetics].
