              Hi Deepak,   The good practice is to throw the exception is at 
upper level and log there. But you should also pass some more info like what 
exactly is the error, at upper level, so you can elaborate it there.   Think of 
this way if you raise the error to presentation layer which is a window based 
app, and may be you are writing it to a text .log file. May be in future you 
give a web based interface and you are restricted to handle the errors in some 
diff way and not to log to the text file. So you can use same DAL in both the 
cases and from presentation layer you can decided how and where to log the 
raised error.   Thanks,
