The default location for PCSC Lite and device drivers is /usr/local. When I install things in /usr/local/pkg (each package in its own directory) and then use stow to create the symbolic links in the approrpiate places in /usr/local everything works fine.
If however I compile everything to be installed in /home/share/tools/pkg and stowed to /home/share/tools then although pcscd starts and initializes correctly there is no communication from connected USB readers and so the system does not work. There are two possibilities: 1. I have failed to install things correctly. 2. PCSC Lite has /usr/local hardwired into the code. I am wondering if anyone else has installed things in a place other than /usr/local and got things working with USB readers to try and show that the solution is 1 above. Alternatively, is it known that pcscd only works out of /usr/local and that my trying to install in an alternate location is currently doomed to failure.
