Don't use the PCSC version that comes on the SuSE CDROMs.
Use the SuSE rpm from www.linuxnet.com instead.

I have had the ACR30U working on SuSE 8.1 and 8.2 but never with the original
SuSE rpms. It seems that they don't support the concept of bundles for USB
drivers very well and they do some funny stuff instead to include a handful
of old-style drivers for an arbitrary selection of reader.

I installed the ACR30 bundle at /usr/local/share/pcsc/drivers.

You can use the "pcsc_tools" pcsc_scan utility to see if your reader is
properly installed (and thus detected).
