I think you can resell your ActivCard reader and buy a new one supported and with existing free software drivers. For example you can buy one of the readers listed on [1]. If you want to buy second hands readers you can buy one listed on [2]. Of course "many" other readers are supported under Unixes and pcsc-lite. But be carefull that the readers listed on [3] are NOT all free software drivers. Some are even binary only! Read [4] for a status on the freeness of these drivers I made two years ago.
