I'd like to share some experience I had with the Muscje Framework I did install de MuscleCard Framework 1.1.3 on OSX 1.3.2 (nice installer) but found out that the installed pcscd daemon was 1.1.1 ; it actually replaced the version 1.1.2 that is installed with the apple distribution. After I reinstalled 1.1.2 manually and after installing the usb driver for a GemPCTwin reader (still needs the etc/reader.conf file to be present !). Everything seemed to work fine; pcsctool selected the bundle and pcsctest detected the reader as well as the insertion and removal of different smartcards returning right ATR identications for each card.
But CocoaCard is not working correctly (no bundle selection), token is only detected after using pcsctool to select the bundle, but no information is returned. APDU on the other hand seems to work since the transmitted codes generate some responses. So far I tought it was time to experiment with Mozilla (1.6), proceeded to load the pkcs11.shlb file in the devices (using unix slashes). Device shows up, but I was unable to log in as far, since the Status says : Not present Probably meaning that somewhere at the end it is not identified properly. I own a secure SmartCArd (GPK16000) from Gemplus containing a digital signature issued by a CA. But have been unable to use it so far on a MAC. The card is working as a charm in Outlook on a Win Box. Do we need another plugin to use a specific card as the one I have ? Those cards are in fact intended to be used to digitally sign mail and documents. For mail the premier candidate on Mac would be MAIL, but this MTA uses Keychain to store Private and public keys, does somebody has an idea how to introduce a SmartCard reader and Card in this mechanism ? I remember the question was allready asked some time ago on the list but I have not seen any answer. For signing documents one of the obvious candidates would be Acrobat, the Pro version has a nice signing mechanism but no provision for external devices, does anyone know about an appropriate plugin for this program. The information found on the Adobe site is quite scarce. These questions bring me to the point that I am not far of thinking that the Framework is a little autdated and, if not, does not solve some main issues as digital signed documents. Or am I wrong ? And is it just that there is some more work involved to mate a specific card to the above applications. And that the existing Framework is only the basis to start working on.
