My system doesn't see my USB reader.

I get the following in my /var/log/messages file:

pcscd says:

My usb works fine (AFAICT). I can interface to a palm pilot, a USB
drive. But when I plug in the reader, and do lsusb, it only shows the
hub. I checked the same reader on my machine with Windows 2000 (It's
dual boot) and it works. So the reader's okay.

My /etc/fstab has:
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0

What I look at /proc/bus/usb is doesn't show anything new.
# cat /proc/bus/usb/drivers
         usbdevfs
         hub

         hid

I'm not saure what to try next. I have my kernel with CONFIG_USB_BANDWIDTH disabled.
I'm going to turn CONFIG_USB_DEBUG on and recompile. Perhaps that will help.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
