This modification should be included in my driver after some testing.

I must say that this other modification is NOT compatible with the
driver I maintain. I already said to Martin it was not a good idea to
make this change. This creates an UNCOMPATIBLE FORK of the driver. You
should know this before you start using this (part of the) patch.
