Looks like they rely on process exit to clean up resources.
I'm truly sorry for that - that's my fault and it's a known
limitation of what we call the "PC/SC bypass" (i.e. the lib
that you get with the SUNWsrcbp package).
One day when we're all sitting around at some conference, or
rather, after the conference having a beer or two, I'll tell
the sordid story of the history of smartcard framework APIs
in Solaris - it's not a pretty one :-).
This turns out to be a big problem with pam.
And most everything else that just works correctly with a native
pcscd implementation.
I'm working on a short-term fix to the bypass (i.e. the SUNWsrcbp
libpcsclite.so/libpcsc-srcom.so) that will allow concurrent access
to the Sun Ray internal reader with proper pcscd semantics. That
will get us all over this hump for a while while we get a native
pcscd implementation working on Solaris and Linux that can support
Sun Ray (both Sun Ray internal readers as well as USB and serial
readers connected to a Sun Ray's ports).
