I meant whether we could use commands common to any USB devices in order to access the readers. However, after I read the specifications it is clearer for me the role and need of CCID.

How do you define "generic"?

The host and the reader need to talk together. So they need to share a
common langage (CCID is one of them).

Or maybe I missed the question?
