Yes, you must use the Muscle PKCS#11 module on Windows in order to use the Muscle PKCS#11 module on LInux.

You can use ID Ally for Windows - http://www.identityalliance.com. It makes use of the Muscle PKCS#11 and provides a CSP which you can use similarly to the Schlumberger middleware. If you have to use the Schlumberger (now Axalto) middleware, I think at one time
they had a Linux version ....

G'day,

Up to now I've been using Linux to store a key and a certificate on a smart card, and using middleware such as pcsc-lite and the muscle PKCS#11 library to access the authentication data on the card, for use in my Linux-based application.

Now I'm wondering how a key and certificate are generally installed onto a smartcard, and whether the typical use case for this is compatible with muscle PKCS#11 library. For example, I think that Windows CA can install a certificate on the card via a cryptographic service provider, and the Schlumberger middleware allows a card to be personalized such that it is "PKCS#11 enabled".

So can I use the muscle PKCS#11 library to access a certificate that has been loaded onto the card via a typical Windows process? Or does the muscle PKCS#11 library only allow access to PKCS#11 objects that have been stored on the card using the muscle PKCS#11 library?
