Hi,

Hopefully I can shed a little on this.

I think this statement is probably a bit misleading:

> In Tiger, pcscd is auto-launched on demand. Securityd looks for insertion > of smartcard devices and runs pcscd as needed. If pcscd doesn't report > recognizing a smartcard reader within 2 minutes, it gets killed again. > (That also applies when you pull out your last reader; two minutes later

Actually, Securityd is responsible for identifying cards and launching pcscd. When it finds a reader that it recognizes, it auto- launches pcscd and uses it until it is no longer needed + 2 minutes. This is mainly to reduce the number of non-active daemons present on the system. When it identifies a card, it spawns what is called a tokend which is a card abstractor, which uses pcscd to talk to the reader. If tokend does not recognize the card, then securityd shuts down pcscd. I somewhat remember that Apple was planning on having a way to keep pcscd open should an application need it .......

Thanks,
Dave

And you reported the bug to Debian [1].
The bug may be in libusb but I will need your help to track it.

Can both of you try to use the subversion [2] version of pcsc-lite and
ccid and try to reproduce the crash?

Thanks,
