A 2.1 JavaCard which does not support crypto? Something like this does
exist? How can you hope to be able to get an SSL session, if the card
has no crypto support?

what I meant is a Javacard that natively doesn't support crypto, it needs a Java applet for that purpose

What does OpenSSL? So far as I guess it uses the simpler libp11 API,
which in turn uses a real PKCS#11 module in the background. Such a
module can be the Muscle PCKS#11 implementation.

So it is clear, that the small libp11 API is different from a real true
complete Cryptoki API.

thanks ! that indeed corrects an error I made:
I thought a convergence layer was necessary between the libp11 and the muscle PKCS#11
