I can't think of one, and it certainly would eliminate the problem of exactly 
how an application can request ownership of the reader without either 
extending or abusing the PC/SC API.

That said, I'd hate to see the change break something.

Does anyone know how (or if?) Microsoft prevents multi-user access to cards?
