You can use JPCSC to Linux or Windows.

You can use the new API Smart Card I/O of Java 6 in JDK 5, you must copy the JCE SunPCSC provider and include it into securiry file propertie (lib\security\java.security) like:

security.provider.X=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPCSC

X = index

Unfortunately this API is included in JDK 6 which is in beta realise.
It can't be downloaded separetely to be used with JDK 5.
