Just install the pcscd Ubuntu package from universe. It is version 1.2.9-beta9 for Ubuntu 6.06. You may also rebuild pcsc-lite 1.4.0 from Debian unstable to have a more recent package. Ubuntu Festy only has version 1.3.3 [1].
