I've attempted to follow the guides I've found on the web to set up CAC
access in linux. I know my card reader is (at least somewhat) working.
I've configured it as follows (I'm running FC6 on x86_64):

openct-0.6.11-svn-r936 (the rpm from fedora didn't work)

This is the Omnikey driver right?
Which fedora rpm did not work? I am not finding any rpm with openct in it's title for x86_64 at redhat, but I am finding an openct directory as part of the ccid source.

do you have ccid-1.0.1-5 installed, as that should be fedora's ccid driver?

Have you reported the Omnikey problem to both the redhat bugzilla for fedora and directly to the upstream yet? That is the only way some of this stuff gets fixed.

BTW, my experience has been that the easiest way to get all this working is to have a device that is actually CCID compliant. The ccid driver page lists devices know to work, probably work, and paper weights.

I have had good luck with the SCM 331 and GemPC USB SL.
current models are ~$20 and when they are known to work, it makes life much easier.

pcsc-lite-1.3.1-7 (also a openct driver package for this)

The FC6 version, should work with an updated Omnikey...?

coolkey-1.0.1-10

The FC6 version.
firefox-1.5.0.10-5 (this might be a FC6-specific version)

Am I missing something? I know this reader works out of the box with
windows for CACs. It seems like all the pieces are there for it to work
with linux, but for some reason it's not. Any info about working
configs with this reader and linux (especially x86_64) would be
appreciated.

I have not tried FC6 but AFAIK it was supposed to work out of the box (after a yum update).

Also, if this is the wrong list, please point me in the
right direction, as all of my searching has inevitably end at this list.

Because the errors look to be coming from pcscd this might be _part_ of the right list (you also need to contact fedora/redhat), but I am sort of suspecting your problem to be with the ccid driver or lack of.

you might look into trying an updated ccid driver instead of the openct if the device is supposed to be CCID compliant, and you might want to try the system in 32 bit mode to see if it is a 32-64 bit problem.

Good luck.
