MS used that name in Studio 5 (1995) and updated it later with the
following statement in their winscard.h:
"SCardState is an obsolete routine."
"PC/SC has replaced it with SCardStatus."
comments still present in header bundled with VS2005 or 2008.
so if one meets "SCardState" he also knows that "SCardStatus" shall
be used instead, and thus I didn't understand the original question.

attributes certainly means parameters, and "enter" means "transmit",
if so no they are equate but SCardState() also returns the reader's
name and thus provide 2 params for that.
but since you shall NOT use SCardState, you don't care about its proto.
