Exact. I don't know how to tell javax.smartcardio to call SCardEstablishContext() in a new thread. Maybe a new call to TerminalFactory.getDefault();, etc. in the new thread will do the job. You would have to look at the javax.smartcardio implementation. Bye PS: I would not say it is a bug in pcsc-lite.
