Sounds like it is a config problem in OS X, then, and given the other
messages in this thread, it's probably a config error that was
introduced in 10.6.3.
I think the config files are stored here (from the man page):
/etc/reader.conf : Reader configuration file
/System/Library/StartupItems/SmartCardServices : pcscd startup script
/var/run/pcscd.pid : process id of the running pcscd
/usr/libexec/SmartCardServices/drivers/ : directory containing bundles
for USB drivers"
But beyond that I'm stuck.
