Hi, from your problem I would say: double and triple check the card activation sequence. If your software has a slight problem with that, you won't get anything. Sequencing as well as delays are important.
The DS8007 chip may help you, at least for understanding, see http://datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/DS8007.pdf page 28.
