Mainly political I think. libusb-0.1 is provided with the dist we are using 
and 'they' aren't to happy change stuff there. 

I had a helluva time convincing them to go from pcsc-lite 1.3.something
to 1.6.1.  Finally managed it thanks to a bug in ccid and I convinced 
them that the ccid and pcsc-lite came as a pair ;)

At the moment I'm afraid that the easiest (cheapest that is) way is to 
go with 'pcscd -f &' in the startup, atleast until we upgrade the whole 
platform to something fancier.

But thank you for the help, it has been of some enlightenment for me at least.
