I remember reading > that this was a problem with libhal, and I guess that it was solved in the > last versions of pcsc-lite, but (I don't understand why) when I execute > pcsc_scan it tells me that it was compiled for version 1.5.3 of pcsc-lite Ubuntu does not start hald on statup. Ubuntu does not store libpcsclite.so.1 in the "standard" directory /usr/lib but /lib So it is not easy to rebuild pcsc-lite to replace the one provided by the distribution. You can find a packaged version of libccid 1.4.0 for i386 and Ubuntu 10.04 at [1]. It is faster for me to give you a pre-compiled binary than explaining what you should do. The package is designed to work with pcsc-lite from Ubuntu. You first need to remove the locally compiled pcsc-lite. Just use 'sudo make uninstall' from the pcsc-lite source directory.
