Thanks Marcelo,
and to all the other people who responded to my question. I am reading
through those specs, well the two GSM ones I'd not gotten to the 3GPP one but
I'll certainly now have a look at it. I think it might well answer the
questions I have about how the sim app is scheduled so thanks for that
pointer.
All my other questions are in regard to practicalities and where to I get the
kit to actually try this out and creat a hello world on a sim that I can see
on my phone. I'm still in the early stages of Google but all I have so far is:

I'll read the 3GPP spec and see if that don't answer a lot more of my newbie
