Don't know if planned, but the trick seems to be limiting the reader name and in this case keeping the unique part (serial) and omitting the possibly repeated information if you would have two readers. But probably the original name should be shortened in the driver, if it was to be interpreted by humans. If not, then the uniqueness of the name is the only thing needed for programs to identify the different readers.
