This is problem of dos-style file publishing is becoming an issue to
me and I would like to help resolve/debug it.

Michael, can you maybe point me in the direction where I should look:
what are the prime suspect muse functions I should look into?  I know
that I can figure that out myself (eventually) but this would save me
some time.
