The problem here is that the "nationality" of a composer is more a cultural
concept which cannot be captured by (historical) political or geographical
boundaries.

See Giuseppe Verdi, maybe the most Italian of all italian composers who,
quoting wikipedia "was born (…) in Le
Roncole<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Roncole>,
a village near Busseto <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busseto>, then in
the Département
Taro <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taro_(d%C3%A9partement)> which was a part
of the First French
Empire<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_French_Empire> after
the annexation of the Duchy of Parma and
Piacenza<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Parma_and_Piacenza>."
What would you chose, even in a free input field?
