What expenses do you have other than talent?  Are you paying rent on the hall? 
Printing flyers?  Are you maintaining sound equipment?  Paying for insurance?

The Bay Area Country Dance Society splits the door at regular dances 60% staff,
40% organization, doing the split from the first dollar in the door.  There are
guarantees for band, caller, sound.
