Please describe your idea of publish:subscribe, and how it is
advantageous over the current "idle".

Compression and encryption can be implemented as transport layer for
the current protocol.

I'm not convinced that we need a redesign.  If something needs to be
improved, fixed or added, let's do it, but I see no reason to start
from scratch.  Although grown, the MPD protocol is fine.
