How do Hadiths get corrupted?

Dear Brothers & sisters, assalamu aleikum

For years I have heard from some Muslims that many of the Hadiths have been
corrupted. I did not accept such notions until the Texas Da'wah conference
in Houston, Texas, on December 25, 2005 wherein I became a believer. During
one of the sessions, I heard with my own ears how a Hadith was corrupted and
manipulated by Waleed Bassiouni – a self proclaimed "sheikh."

What was so absurd about his talk is that he not only corrupted the Hadith
but he used them to vilify Iraq and her people. Waleed Bassiouni erred and
he needs to be corrected.

The Texas Dawah – under the control of Waleed Bassiouni - held a conference
at George R. Brown Convention Center on December 23, 24 & 25, 2005, with
many guest speakers from the US and abroad – including video conferences
with Saudi Imams. I feel that the large sum of money spent to organize this
event was not justified. Obviously, the organizers went for quantity and
not quality of lectures. I was really disappointed with a few of them –
especially Waleed Bassiouni – the organizer of the event. His talk on Iraq
and his manipulation of Hadith reveals that his thoughts and intent are
wicked.

Background: in 2004, I submitted a proposal to Waleed Bassiouni. I asked to
be invited to give a talk on Iraq at the Texas Dawah Convention 2004. He
never replied to my proposal. Instead, he chose an Iraqi American from
Minnesota to give that talk. Of course, the this guest speaker gave an
accurate description of Iraq and all the evil things that happened under the
regime of Saddam Hussein of which we already know and have been most
adequately covered. He completely veered away from the political intrigue,
the US atrocities and war crimes against the people of Iraq. Most offensive
of all, he never once touched the subject how most Arab & Muslim governments
cooperated with the US to destroy Iraq (in two wars + Iran war) and later
joined the sanctions against the people of Iraq. In brief, that talk was a
big hurrah for the most recent American invasion and occupation and spoke
nothing of the present Iraqi suffering, death and frustration.

Waleed Bassiouni passes himself as an expert on Iraq but he was very
deliberate in how he presented himself in the Texas Dawah 2005. He
manipulated the Hadiths to further misguide his more narrow-minded followers
and managed to vilify Iraq in the process. I suspect many of the uninformed
Muslims at the Waleed Bassiouni conference began to believe these corrupted
Hadiths.

Waleed, theatrically dressed in Saudi garb and standing behind the podium,
began with a "humble" introduction, whispering, using his most 'pious'
voice. He began with "I am not like other people who would speak about
history and politics … I want to talk to you from an Islamic perspective,"
while his voice broke for emphasis and special effect. The Charlatan
continued raving for a while before he began misquoting and manipulating
Hadiths from Al-Bukhari and other Imams. In his own mind, he is established
as an authority on Hadiths and hence about Iraq. Waleed Bassiouni claimed
that Iraq is the land of all Fitnas and that Muslims should do nothing
(meaning don't speak or get involved). A'3oothu bi'Allah from the evils of
such preachers. He may be a fairly good actor, but I would characterize him
as a bad shepherd who only knows how to keep his flock of sheep together for
his own profit, but one who cares nothing for the welfare or suffering of
those sheep.

With feet fixed (glued) to the floor behind the podium, he swings left &
right – occasionally forward and backward but constantly straightening his
garb. Then he began reciting Hadiths from the sermons of the Prophet
(SAAWS) followed by quoting some of the Hadiths relating to Al-Fitna. The
first one he quoted was:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

*The Prophet said, "O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham! O Allah!
Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen." The People said, "And also on our
Najd." He said, "O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham (north)! O
Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen." The people said, "O Allah's
Apostle! And also on our Najd." I think the third time the Prophet said,
"There (in Najd) is the place of earthquakes and afflictions and from there
comes out the side of the head of Satan." *

Incredibly, Waleed Bassiouni proceeded with more Hadiths to equate Iraq with
Najd. Please note that the Sahaba were very specific in asking the Prophet
(saaws) about "our Najd." Every Arab & Muslim at the time could not have
meant anything other than the famous Najd in eastern part of the Arabian
Peninsula. Iraq at the time was very well known to both - the Arabs during
Al-Jahiliyya period and Muslims during the life of Prophet Muhammad (saaws)
just as much as Yemen and Sham were known to them. So how could Waleed
Bassiouni err so badly to equate Iraq with Najd? What an ill-informed or
wicked Sheikh he is.

*(As I was listening, a Muslim two seats away from me began snoring 10
minutes after Bassiouni started his show. It's obvious, this Muslim found
Waleed Bassiouni boring.)*

Now the art of political chicanery comes into play. Waleed Bassiouni quotes
another Hadith about the Rasool (saaws) pointing toward the dwelling of
as-Sayyida 3a'isha (ra). Later on, Bassiouni emphasized that ar-Rasool
(saaws) was pointing EAST toward the dwelling of As-Sayyida 3a'isha (ra).
Finally, he found another Hadith that the name Iraq appeared in it. Just
like the Bible thumpers of America, Waleed Bassiouni came to his own
conclusion (or the conclusion of the petro-dollar imams of aal Saud) to tie
these Hadiths together to suggest that Iraq must be the Najd the Prophet
(saaws) was referring to. A3oodhu bi'Allah! A3oodhu bi'Allah!

I noticed something unusual about Waleed Bassiouni constantly adjusting his
garb while preaching. For a while. I thought it was simply a bad habit but
I realized that it was the ghutra (white head cover) and the 3aba'a (outer
cape or Arabian outer cover) he was wearing, which are typical Saudi dress.
This type of dress bothered him, perhaps because it is quite alien to his
native land Egypt/Ghaza or Sinai Peninsula; I really don't know. Waleed
Bassiouni perhaps wore the Gilabiyya all his life. Evidently, after
receiving his education from a Saudia university Bassiouni traded his native
dress with that of Saudis. Good business practice if you are beholden in
some way to the Saudis. In the world of business we call this "changing
hats." Now, why would Waleed Bassiouni the Egyptian/Ghazzawi (or whatever)
seek Islamic education at Saud Al-Fasiq University and not the prestigious
Al-Azhar University? As far back as a child I remember that the most pious
and learned Muslim was the one who wore the Al-Azhar University cap. Why is
he wearing the ghutra and aba'a in America?

Look further to what 'Mullah' Bassiouni concluded:

First, take a good look at the map of Iraq in relation to the Arabian
Penninsula and where Yemen, Sham and Najd are located on the map below.
Please note that Iraq is almost directly north of the City of Medina and not
to the east as professed by Mullah Bassiouni. That's his next big error and
an oversight he didn't bother to explain. When I drew a horizontal line
through Medina straight eastward, guess where it went? It went straight
through Riyadh – the seat of the most corrupt family in the Muslim world.
This is where the fasiqeen from Saudia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman … and
UAE conspire with the enemy against the Arab and Muslim world. Riyadh,
Dar'iyya (the birth place of aal Saud) just north of Riyadh and the
surrounding area is what used to be and still is known as an-Najd. Without a
doubt, Mullah Waleed Bassiouni erred.

*As Waleed Bassiouni said, the Prophet (saaws) was pointing east toward
Sayyida 3aisha's (ra) quarters. Then if that is not a reference to an-Najd
of aal Saud or 'al-fitna by sayyida 3aisha (ra)' then it must be a reference
to Pakistan because the line doesn't go through or near either Iraq or
Iran. Allahu a'alam, perhaps none of this is true because the Hadiths
relating to these matters have been corrupted throughout Islamic history by
the likes of Mullah Waleed Bassiouni and other hired sheikhs to serve the
interests of dictators, Emirs, kings and the fasiqeen.*

Muslims may ask, why didn't I tell this to him privately and discreetly? I
would have done this except that Mullah Bassiouni corrupted these Hadiths
before a multitude of Muslims from Houston and across the USA at the Texas
Dawah2005 conference. As Muslims, we must put an end to such corruption of
Hadiths for whatever reason. Else, why should we attend conferences to learn
error?

In conclusion, Waleed Bassiouni should be barred from giving Khutbas at all
ISGH masajid until he apologizes to Muslims for his perversion of Hadith and
to the people of Iraq for his erroneous conjectures. Most of all, he must
repent, and may Allah forgive him his sins. It is each Muslim's duty to keep
Islamic understanding pure.

Wassalamu aleikum

*Narrated Salama: *

*I heard the Prophet saying**, "Whoever ascribes to me what I have not said
then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire." *
