In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful, the All-Compassionate
"May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You"
Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with
Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah
guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one
can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness
that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

» Tafsir Ibn Kathir
This surah ask for protection from various evils , such as dark of the night or
the 'envies' of the 'envious'.
In verse 4, "those who blow on knots" refers to would-be-witches.
Surah Al-Falaq & Surah an-Nas are together termed the 'muaawidhatayn' or 'Surah
of Refuge'; they deal with roughly the same theme and form a natural pair.
There is a Sunnah [tradition of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh)] of reading it over the
sick or before sleeping.
(From the evil of what He has created,)
This means from the evil of all created things. Thabit Al-Bunani and Al-Hasan
Al-Basri both said, "Hell, Iblis and his progeny, from among that which He
(Allah) created.''
(And from the evil of the Ghasiq when Waqab,)
Mujahid said, "Ghasiq is the night, and `when it Waqab' refers to the setting
of the sun.''
Al-Bukhari mentioned this from him.
Ibn Abi Najih also reported a similar narration from him (Mujahid).
(And from the evil of the Ghasiq when Waqab,)
"This means the sun when it sets.''
(And from the evil of the blowers in knots,)
Mujahid, `Ikrimah, Al-Hasan, Qatadah and Ad-Dahhak all said,
"This means the witches.'' Mujahid said,
"When they perform their spells and blow into the knots.''
>> Hadiths
Uqbah ibn Aamir said: I met the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him)
and he said to me, O Uqbah ibn Aamir, shall I not teach
you some Soorahs the like of which have not been revealed in the Tawraat
(Torah) or the Zaaboor (Psalms) or the Injeel (Gospel) or in the Quraan?
There is no night comes but you should not recite (i.e., every night you should
recite)
Qul huwa Allaahu ahad [Soorat al-Ikhlaas],
Qul aoodhu bi Rabbil-falaq [Soorat al-Falaq]
and Qul aoodhu bi Rabbil-naas [Soorat al-Naas].
Uqbah said: So every night I would recite them. It became my duty to recite
them, because the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) had commanded me to do so
(Musnad Ahmad, 16810)
Reciting Soorah al-Ikhlaas, Soorah al-Falaq and Soorah al-Naas.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite them
when going to sleep, and he would blow into his hands and then wipe them over
whatever he could reach of his body. It was narrated from Aaishah that every
night when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to bed,
he would cup his hands together, blow into them then recite into them Qul Huwa
Allaahu ahad, Qul aoodhu bi Rabb il-falaq and Qul aoodhu bi Rabb il-naas,
then he would wipe as much as he could reach of his body, starting with his
head and face and the front of his body. And he would do that three times.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5018.
And it was narrated that Uqbah ibn Aamir said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Have you not seen the verses that
were revealed tonight, the like of which has never been seen? Qul aoodhu bi
Rabb il-falaq and Qul aoodhu bi Rabb il-naas. Narrated by Muslim, 814.
