The Life of This World and the Hereafter

in the Light of Qur'an

Fair in the eyes of men is
the love of things they covet: Women and sons;
Heaped-up hoards of gold and silver;
horses branded (for blood and excellence);
and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land.
Such are the possessions of this world's life;

but in nearness to Allah is
the best of the goals (To return to).

{Surah Aal Imran ~ Ayah 14}

~~~
Those who desire
the life of the present and its glitter,
- to them we shall pay (the price of)
their deeds therein, - without diminution.
They are those for whom
there is nothing in the Hereafter but the Fire:
vain are the designs they frame therein,
and of no effect and the deeds that they do!
{Surah Hud ~ Ayah 15-16}
~~~

Wealth and sons are
allurements of the life of this world:
But the things that endure, good deeds,
are best in the sight of thy Lord,
as rewards, and best as (the foundation for) hopes.

{Surah Al-Kahf ~ Ayah 46}

~~~
What is the life of this world
but amusement and play?
but verily the Home in the Hereafter,
- that is life indeed, if they but knew.
{Surah Al Ankaboot ~ Ayah 64}
~~~

If any do wish for the transitory things
(of this life), We readily grant them -
such things as We will, to such person as We will:
in the end have We provided Hell for them:
they will burn therein, disgraced and rejected.

Those who do wish
for the (things of) the Hereafter,
and strive therefor with all due striving,
and have Faith, -
they are the ones whose striving is acceptable
(to Allah)

{Surah Bani Isra'il ~ Ayah 18-19}

~~~
Day (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;
But the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
{Surah Al Alaa ~ Ayah 16-17}
~~~

Know ye (all), that
the life of this world is but play and amusement,
pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying,
(in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children.

Here is a similitude:
How rain and the growth which it brings forth,
delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers;
thou wilt see it grow yellow;
then it becomes dry and crumbles away.

But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe
(for the devotees of wrong).

And Forgiveness from Allah and (His)
 Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah..
And what is the life of this world,
but goods and chattels of deception?

{Surah Al Hadeed ~ Ayah 20}

(  سورة النمل  , An-Naml, Chapter 27, Verse 19 )

 "...O my Lord!
so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours,
which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents,
and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee:
And admit me, by Thy Grace,
to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants."
