Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barkatuh!

 It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (radi'Allahu anhu) that
the Messenger of Allaah (Sall'Allahu alaihi wa sallam) was asked about

fasting on the Day of Arafaah.

He (Sall'Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said,

 'It expiates for the (miner) sins

of the previous year and of the coming year.'

{ Reported by Muslim }

NOTE:

This fasting is mustahabb for those who are not on Hajj.
In the case of the one who is on Hajj,

it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of Arafaah,
because the Prophet (Sall'Allahu alaihi wa sallam)
did not fast on this day in Arafaah.
It was narrated that he (Sall'Allahu alaihi wa sallam) forbade
fasting on the Day of Arafaah in Arafaah.
