Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi
Wa Barkatuh!
Abu qatada al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reported that
the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was asked
about fasting on the day of Aashura (10th of Muharram),
whereupon be said:
It expiates the (minor) sins of the preceding year.
(Sahih Muslim ~ Book #006, Hadith #2603)
