Abu Darda Radi'Allahu 'anhu narrates that Nabi SallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam asked: "Would you like me to tell you the best of all your deeds and the purest of them to your Lord, which raises your ranks to the highest; and is better for you than the spending of gold and silver (in the path of Allah); and better for you than that you encounter your enemy whose necks you cut and who cut your necks?" The Sahabah (RadiAllahu Anhum) replied: "Yes, indeed!" He (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: It is Dhikr of Allah, the Exalted.
