By Al-Asr (the time). 2. Verily! Man is in loss 3. Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Maroof ÇáãÚÑæÝ)which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al- Munkar ÇáãäßÑ)which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allahs Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.). By the time through the ages![1] Surely mankind is in loss,[2] except those who believe and do good deeds; exhort one another to the truth and exhort one another to patience.[3] 103:[1-3] COMMENTRY: The meaning of wl-asr is “ fast/ swiftly passing time: If you ask a person of seventy years “ How long do you think you lived” He will reply “only seventy years” How does he feels about seventy years and he will say he feels he was borne only yesterday! – such fat the time passes and mankind runs after this world, want s glamour, luxuries, fame, and good fortune etc. but forgets he is to live up to only 70 years in good health (that also Lord willing) the rest of life will become burden upon him. Therefore wise is only he, who pay’s attention to worldly affairs for as long as he has to live in this world and pay rest of attention preparing himself for the next world other wise he is in total loss as indicated in this sura.
