I transcribed music both with and without bars in the uptext line,
so this is not the real problem. It's handy to put a bar, for example,
if you have a lot of notes without chords, and you are too lazy to
write a lot ot tildes.
I think the only exception is the pickup bar, especially if you are
moving the uptext line, and so you have a @ parameter: in this case you
MUST have a note. Here there is an excerpt from my transcription
of Jingle Bells:
% U: @+2@<@< La Re | | |
% @+5 a2 | f4 f f2 | f4 f f2 | f4 a d4d- e8 | f2d r8 g |
% L: Oh, Jin-gle bells, Jin-gle bells, sen-ti_il tin-tin-nar: \`e
% U: Sol | Re | Mi7 | La7
% g4 g g4d g8 | g4 f f4d f8 | f4 e e f | e2 a |
% L: bel-lo_an-da-re col ca-val-lo sul-la ne-ve bian-ca!
or from my "Padre nostro" (Our Father... never sung, anyway. Too much
rocking :-) )
% U: @+2@<@< Re7 Do7 | Sol | Do |
% @+5 r2 r4 g8 g | g ( d d4d ) d8 b+ a | e ( g g2d ) |
% L: Pa-dre no-stro, che sei nei cie-li,
% U: La7 ~ ~ ~ Re7 | Sol |
% a8 a a b c c a a | e ( g g2d ) |
% L: sia san-ti-fi-ca-to_il no-me tu-o,
ciao, .mau.
