In March 2007 we talked about what's still needed for 1.6. The
discussion kicked off some progress and some releases, but I'm not sure
whether final decisions were made on all the proposals. At any rate,
in the interim I've been asked a few of times about the x-label editing
(and sorting) patch. It's updated here for hg tip:
