Hi all, I've posted this question to mutt-users a few weeks ago but got no answers there. I have a little more info now and suspect it may be an issue that requires attention from the developers, so I suspect this list is a better place to ask.
I use Mutt to access my mail account with fastmail.fm over IMAP. A few weeks ago I started getting the message "Mailbox was externally modified. Flags may be wrong" every time I change to a different mailbox on the server. This message usually appears if I'm logged into the server twice (e.g. from two different computers, of through webmail and IMAP at the same time) but now it always appears, even if I'm just logged in once. (I'm certain I'm not accidentally logged in twice, BTW.) Today I learnt that Fastmail installed a new IMAP (and POP) server a few weeks ago, right at the time I started getting this message (details to be found here: http://blog.fastmail.fm/2010/07/27/new-popimap-server-version/ ), which suggests that something the new server does makes Mutt think the mailbox was externally modified, even though it really wasn't. I've opened a ticket at the Fastmail support system, but I figured it might be a good idea to post here as well, because i suspect the way Mutt determines if a mailbox was externally modified may have something to do with the problem.
