The typical use case for tunnel mode is to ssh to a remote host
and invoke the imap server in preauth mode. Since it is tunneled
over ssh, there isn't a need to run SSL over it.
If you can get socat to listen on a port on localhost, then you
can just make mutt connect to: imaps://localhost:PORT and it
should work without tunnel mode.
